San Diego, California: The Ogaden Youth & Student Union
of San Diego held its first meet and great event of the
year. The purpose of the event was to invite the youth from
the greater San Diego area to come and meet the current
board, learn more about the struggle in the Ogaden and see
how to get involved.

In his opening remarks OYSU San Diego president Mohamed-Noor
Mohamoud welcomed the many attendees and after a brief introduction
emphasized the importance of raising awareness about the
hidden and often ignored genocide in the Ogaden.
It is to be remembered that the Ogaden still continues
to be isolated from the rest of the world as the Ethiopian
government imposed a total humanitarian, economic and media
blockade, where international humanitarian aid organizations
and international independent media outlets have all been
denied access.

As the discussions continued, they were mainly centered
around the upcoming events, notably the San Diego and Los
Angeles “walk to end the genocide” which will
be held in the coming months. As well as the upcoming OYSU
3rd annual international conference to be held in San Diego
on May, 23-27.
As this is a youth led movement San Diego expects more
than 200 youths from all over the world, representatives
of more than 25 countries from 5 continents to come together
and critically analyze the dire humanitarian crisis in the
Ogaden and to further engage in a conflict resolution dialogue.

Therefore, OYSU California will continue to raise awareness
about the genocide in the Ogaden throughout California particularly
high schools, colleges and Universities.
Please join them as they urge the US government as well
as the international community to investigate crimes against
the citizens of the Ogaden by the Ethiopian military.
